The name "Belly Blossoms" is deeply symbolic. The semi-circular patios evoke the shape of a pregnant belly, representing a nurturing space within a woman; holding life. Just as a woman’s belly nurtures and protects a growing baby, these patios embrace elements that are vital to life: vegetation and water and climatically, offer comfort and shelter. The vegetation within these patios represents fertility and growth, while the incorporation of water elements symbolizes purity and life. Symbolically, the patios are the bellies and life sources of the building itself. Each semi-circular patio is strategically placed to maximize exposure to natural light, creating a bright and welcoming environment. These central spaces draw inspiration from the traditional "impluvium house" found in the Senegal region, which features a circular roof that collects and stores rainwater at its center for future use.

Located on a 45.00 x 15.00-meter plot in Senegal, "Belly Blossoms" is a maternity center that harmonizes tradition, nature, and innovative design to create a nurturing environment for expectant mothers, accompanying them through their maternity process and creating a supportive community among women of this locality. This project embraces the essence of life and growth, symbolically represented through its unique semi-circular patios, each facing different orientations and serving different purposes.

Understanding the cultural context was vital while designing the maternity center. Research revealed a family tradition where Senegalese women, about to give birth, hug trees and lean against them during the moments leading up to labor and process of dilation. This ancestral ritual emphasizes the deep connection between nature and childbirth. Therefore, the trees are not only included in the design for aesthetic reasons but also for their deeper meaning and architectural concept. For this reason, the patios are accessible from the birth preparation rooms, providing vital contact with nature before giving birth, creating a calming and supportive environment for women. Currently, the maternity centers found in the area are not big enough, therefore this space offers a supportive environment where women can accompany and support each other through the whole process of maternity.

A significant detail of the project is the close emphasis on local materials and involving the local community in the project. The construction process is designed to be collaborative, working hand in hand with local men and women. For this reason, we use materials and construction techniques that are easily found in Senegal. Materials such as earth bricks, wood, and clay are used together with recycled materials such as shells and wheels. This not only reduces the en-vironmental impact but also fosters a sense of ownership and pride. Adding a personal touch to the project, we also work with textiles created by local women during their pregnancy period, used as decorative elements in the project. These textiles are more than just decoration; they represent the journey of motherhood and the creativity of women.

"Belly Blossoms" is more than just a maternity center; it is a sanctuary where tradition meets innovation. It provides a nurturing and supportive environment for expectant mothers, deeply rooted in the cultural and natural heritage of Senegal. By integrating traditional practices, sustainable materials, and community involvement, the project creates a holistic space that celebrates life and growth in every aspect. The careful choice of materials reflects a commitment to both environmental responsibility and community involvement. Crushed Stone,Wheels, earth bricks,Wild Bamboo, etc. The combination of these materials creates not only a functional and resilient building but also weave a narrative of sustainability, cultural respect, and community empowerment. "Belly Blossoms" stands as fusion of tradition and innovation, fostering a supportive environment for mothers in Senegal.
